Hike with Dexter

Hi Friends!
This is Dexter. Dexter is a young pitbull who is available for adoption at APS of Durham. He is very much not like a more famous fictional Dexter ya'll might watch on TV. This past weekend I had the pleasure of going on a hike with Dexter, along with a few of my human companions. Perhaps the most endearing and adorable thing about Dexter is his love of laps - if you have a lap, he's going to try to fit on to it.
Excuse me sir, your lap is a tad bit too small!
Another really sweet (and rare) thing about Dexter is how much he loves - loves - men. I could just picture him sitting back with the dudes watching the Sunday game or playing a game of ball on a summer's evening. He was gracious and happy to meet every person on the trail, but he had a particular soft spot for the bros. While walking on the trail he was constantly trying to nuzzle the males' hands in hopes of a treat. We see a lot of dogs at APS who are afraid of men, so it was nice to see a dog that really loved some masculine energy.
He has the most gorgeous and soft coat!
While walking on the trail, Dexter showed off his exuberance and love of life. You can tell that he would love to have a human to go on adventures with, or runs, since he does have a lot of energy. He also needs a bit of help learning not to pull on the leash (see video below), but he is so very food motivated and eager to please that it won't be hard to teach him the dos and don'ts of leash walking.

He is quite the gentleman when it comes to taking treats, and sits as pretty as a picture for as long as it will take to get some noms. He also is a fan of leaping in the air if you throw a treat - he isn't coordinated enough to catch it, but he sure does try to take flight in his attempt.
Such a gentle boy
I tried to get him to play around in the Eno River, but he wasn't having it - he either isn't that into water, or thought I was nuts because it was so cold and I wanted him to get in the water! Dexter would probably be up for anything that involves playing with you, or cuddling. He definitely loves to cuddle. He also loves to sniff around... he acts a little bit like a beagle in that regard (but less stubborn!).

Get in the water? Are you crazy?!
The cutest thing of all? On the way home, he fell asleep curled up on a lap and started snoring. I only wish I had audio. This boy deserves a loving home!

If you are looking for an active young dog who will love to do just about anything you want, check out Dexter at http://www.apsofdurham.org/dexter-2/ or stop by the animal shelter to say hello!
I'll be patiently waiting for you!
